THINGS TO DO ON BONAIRE
Scuba Diving - Bonaire is probably best known for it's excellent diving and is considered one of the
world's top destinations. Almost 50% of the visitors to Bonaire are drawn for this exciting sport. The great
attraction for many is freedom of shore diving at your own pace. There are yellow colored stones that
mark the entry point of over 50 dive sites easily assessable from shore. Check out this Guide. The best
resource for shore diving is Susan Porter's book "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy". It includes useful
information on many marked and unmarked sites including entry and exit points, currents and what might
be found. We keep a copy for our guests but you can get your own copy at dive shops and stores on the island or ordered in advance online from the link above. If you prefer any of the dive shops also offer boat dives to these same sites as well as some, like those surrounding Klein Bonaire, that are not accessible from shore. In addition to all the sites mentioned above some operators offer boat trips to sites off the east coast (windward side) of Bonaire./ We offer discounts off air packages and boat trips thru Dive Friends Bonaire (Photo Tours & Yellow Submarine) who have a convenient drive up filling station at Port Bonaire across from the airport about a 4 minute drive from our house.

Snorkeling - The calm conditions of the leeward side of Bonaire coupled with the fact that so many great
dive sites are extremely close to shore makes this island not only a "Diver's Paradise" but also a
Snorkeler's Paradise. No matter what your age you can enjoy the beauty of the underwater world within a
few strokes of shore. Equipment can be rented but it is highly recommended that you purchase your own -
once you experience the world below the surface your equipment will get plenty of use. Again, Susan
Porter's book Bonaire "Shore Diving Made Easy" is a useful guide and includes information valuable to
snorkelers as well. If you are interested in guided snorkels look up Renee's Snorkel Tours , Caren at Sea
And Discover
. Their knowledge and experience can make it a most educational and enjoyable time.
Another great thing to try is a night snorkel. Grab an underwater light and see what different creatures
come out after the sun sets.

Klein Bonaire - Hop aboard a water Taxi (The Sea Cow or Kantika di Amor) and do a drift snorkel off
the coast of Klein Bonaire or pack a lunch and spend a few hours enjoying the lovely beach on this
deserted island just off Bonaire's leeward side.

Windsurfing - Bonaire's Lac Bay provides near perfect conditions for windsurfers of all levels. The
shallow calm waters are great for anyone to learn this exiting sport. There are 2 centers adjacent to each -
Jibe City
& The Windsurfing Place.

Kite Boarding - Constant trade winds provide excellent conditions for the experienced as well as
lessons for those at least 10 years old. Check out information on this sport at Kiteboarding Bonaire.

Kayaking - Rent a Kayak at Jibe City and paddle the protected waters of Lac Bay, or better yet take a
guided excursion thru the mangroves available thru the Mangrove Center.

Fishing - Enjoy a day or night off shore fishing trip or experience bone fishing with Big Game Fishing,
Piscatur, or Multi-Fish Charters.

Beaches - Bonaire certainly doesn't have the nicest beaches in the Caribbean but you still can find
patches of sand to lie on, including our own private Lighthouse Beach. For the most part, the beaches are
full of coral and feel gritty to bare feet. The best beach area is probably Lac Bay in front of the
windsurfing centers. Other than that you can find small areas of sand at Pink Beach and Windsock.
Additionally, Plaza Resort allows access to their beach for $5.00 per day and this entitles you to use of
their pool as well.

Bird Watching - Even though the Flamingo is Bonaire's most famous bird the island is home to about
200 species of birds. Goto Meer Lake, Pekelmeer and Lac Bay offer excellent opportunism to enjoy this
past time. Jerry Ligon at Bonaire Dive and Adventure offers Bird Watching Tours.

Washington Slagbaai National Park - Take one of the two tour routes thru the 13,500 acres of this
National Park located at the northern end of Bonaire. There is a small museum at the entrance where you
can also get information on hiking and climbing trails. Plan to spend about a 1/2 a day here.

Indian Inscriptions - Check out these ancient rock drawings at a marked location across from Boca
Onima.

Donkey Sanctuary & Safari Visit the Donkey Safari, home to over 300 donkeys, walk the grounds,
climb the observation deck, see the mini Iguana farm, check out the gift shop and stop by and get you
picture on one of Bonaire's Webcams.

Blokart Land Sailing - This activity is a fairly new addition to Bonaire and offers fun for all ages.
These 3 wheeled go carts with large sails driven by the wind rip you around a track located just off the
road to Rincon. Check out Landsailing Bonaire.

Horseback Riding - Available at the Riding Academy Club at Kunuku Warahama. Reservations
necessary.

Parasailing -Get a bird's eye view of Bonaire while parasailing over the Bay of Kralendijk

Shopping - Shopping on Bonaire is limited. There are a few stores along the main street in Kraledijk as
well as gift shops in the resorts and one at the airport. Some nice items can be found but this is a far cry
from shopping on St. Thomas. Another source for souveniers and unique items are the Art Galleries.

Art Galleries - Galleries and displays are found in many locations including restaurants, stores and
along the waterfront in town when cruise ships are docked. More formal are Jan Art and Bonaire
Creations
.

Sailing Cruises - Choose from snorkel cruises, sunset cruises and dinner cruises offered by the Samur,
the Woodwind, the Mushi Mushi or the Aquaspace that also features an underwater observation deck.

Casinos - Divi Flamingo Resort has acasual casino with gaming tables and slot machines.

Restaurants - There are many great resuarants to chose from offering a wide range of choices and
prices. One source of information is the Bonaire Dining Guide . Among our favorites are Bobbejans BBQ,
Pasa Bon Pizza, Lion's Den, Unbelievable, City Cafe, El Fogon Latino, Plazita Lamina, Ribs Factory, and
Mona Lisa.
